Volunteer in an indigenous community, a unique experience as participants will live within the community and experience another culture.

Volunteering with the indigenous community is a unique experience as participants will live within the community and experience another culture. Volunteers involved in this projects could support an English language program at the elementary and secondary school, help with tourist groups, support investigation of cultural aspects, help with translation work for the crafts museum.

Furthermore they are helping with initiatives e.g. recycling, intercultural dialogues with elderly members of the community to conserve important knowledge (medical plants, language, art, music, beliefs), Volunteers can help in the local radio station, help with elderly care and medical support and youth groups during their stay. Volunteers will live in this community to learn more about culture, crafts, legends and food.

Location
Puerto Viejo, Bribri, Boruca.
Working hours
7:00-12:00pm and 1:00-4:00pm (depending on field of interest).
Skills
Interest in anthropology, ability to live in basic accommodation in remote areas, interest to work within a different culture, respect for the indigenous beliefs and their culture, work under supervision of the local coordinator, Spanish level advanced. Help in local school, cultural radio, etc.
